The Miller Art Museum has announced a series of public events in September as part of its Al & Mickey Quinlan Artist Residency Program. These programs are designed to connect the community with Douglas Pendleton, the 2025 artist-in-residence, and highlight the residency’s role in fostering creativity and artistic exchange in Door County.

The programming begins with "Figure & Form: Portrait Drawing Workshop" on Wednesday, September 3. The three-hour session, led by Pendleton at the Dome House, will give participants an introduction to portraiture using a live model. Both beginners and experienced artists are welcome, and materials will be provided.

On Friday, September 19, from 6 to 9 pm, the museum will host "The Painted Potluck," a community gathering where guests bring dishes inspired by selected paintings. Participants may interpret the artwork directly or more abstractly through their culinary choices. Attendees will share stories about both the food and art during the event. Registration is required for this free event via Eventbrite at https://millerartmuseum.org/programs-events.

The residency program concludes with a Closing Celebration and Exhibition on Saturday, September 27 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. This event will showcase Pendleton’s work produced during his eight-week stay in Door County. The public is invited to meet the artist and view his creative output.

“We’re excited to share programs this September that highlight the work being done through the residency program and the Dome House as a gathering place for our community,” said Elizabeth Meissner-Gigstead, Executive Director of the Miller Art Museum. “Leah Karrels, our Dome House Artist Residency Coordinator, has done a fantastic job this year in working with Douglas to create unique opportunities that reflect our mission of connecting people and ideas through the visual arts.”

All events are free and open to all community members. Parking is available only on the west side of 5015 S. Cave Point Dr., with instructions not to block driveways or roadways. More information can be found at www.millerartmuseum.org or www.domehouseart.org.

The Dome House Al & Mickey Quinlan Artist Residency Program selects early- to mid-career Midwest artists for an eight-week stay at Door Peninsula’s Dome House. This year’s resident artist was chosen from among 40 applicants representing ten states across the Midwest.

Door County has long been recognized as an inspiration for artists across disciplines. The Miller Art Museum’s permanent collection contains over 1,500 works by local artists past and present. The residency aims to broaden this tradition by inviting new artists to experience Door Peninsula's environment.

Located in downtown Sturgeon Bay on Wisconsin's Door Peninsula, the Miller Art Museum houses what it describes as “the world’s largest public collection of artworks by Gerhard CF Miller.” Miller was known for his membership in several prestigious art societies and exhibited at institutions such as New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

As Door County’s only art museum open year-round, it offers exhibitions covering various subjects and media alongside educational programs and a museum store featuring books and artisan crafts.
