White students were the most represented ethnic group within Forest County schools in the 2024-25 school year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of the 1,483 students attending Forest County schools, 58.7% were white. American Indian students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 26.2% of Forest County students.

In the previous school year, white students were also the most common group in Forest County, representing 59.1% of the student body.

Countywide, Crandon Elementary School had the most even distribution of races, which included 53.5% white students, 29.3% American Indian students, 14.1% multiracial students, 2.8% Hispanic students, and 0.3% Black students.

In the 2024-25 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county increased 1.2% from the previous year.

Wisconsin ranks 22nd in the U.S. for public education spending, with an annual expenditure of over $16,500 per pupil, totaling $13.8 billion.
