More students enrolled in Menominee County's only school district in 2023-24 school year

The only school district in Menominee County had rising enrollment in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

There were 991 students in the halls of Menominee Indian School District, 0.4% more than the year before.

Enrollment in Menominee County bucked the state’s trend compared to the state’s overall decreasing trend.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 51.8% of them were boys, and 48.2% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Native American, representing 87.8% of Menominee Indian School District's total enrollment.

Menominee Indian School District has a main office in Keshena and is the only school district within Menominee County.

Nearly 830,000 students were enrolled in Wisconsin schools in the 2021-22 school year. This is a 0.85% decrease from the year before. In sharp contrast to declining public school figures, enrollment in charter schools rose 4.5% to more than 52,000.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 14 students in a Wisconsin classroom, compared with the national average of 1:16. AAA State of Play considered Wisconsin to have the 14th best teacher to student ratio in the U.S.
