A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Argonne in Wisconsin regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request, submitted by NE Wisconsin News, seeks access to a list of voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
As part of our commitment to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NE Wisconsin News believe that access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In the request, we emphasized our role as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Given this role in disseminating information, we asserted our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq.
We are awaiting a response from the Town of Argonne and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
