Highlands Cafe in Wauwatosa started off small. Really small.
"We had a little space," explains owner Sandy Murphy. "We started in 2007 with a hot plate and a panini grill, just making everything from scratch."
Now in its 13th year and with 50 seats, the cafe is ready to bounce back after closing down for two and half months and losing 60 percent of their business because of the pandemic.
"(My) thoughts were 'let me close down, pay my people, pay my bills,' and hopefully have some money not knowing how long it's going to go to re-open" Murphy says.
The Highlands Cafe is back open for dining, Wednesday through Sunday, from 7am to 2pm. The unique Highland Ham and Eggs, along with their signature hash dishes are the favorites on the menu.
