The North Zone snowmobile trails in Door County will remain closed, regardless of the current snowstorm, due to standing water and unfrozen swamps, according to a Feb. 15 announcement. The closure affects the area from Maple Tree Road/Kangaroo Beach Road (Egg Harbor to Baileys Harbor) north to Gills Rock.
This closure is important for public safety and property protection. Trail users are reminded that entering closed trails can result in citations and fines. “NOTICE: PLEASE RESPECT PRIVATE AND PUBLIC PROPERTY WHEN TRAILS ARE CLOSED. BE AWARE THAT FAILURE TO ABIDE BY TRAIL CLOSURES CAN RESULT IN A CITATION AND FINE!” the statement said.
There is a three-mile-wide overlap area between the northern and central sections of the trail system that remains open if either section is open, but currently, the North Zone itself is not accessible. Additionally, officials clarified that the sledding hill at Peninsula State Park is not part of the trail system and snowmobiles should not be used there.
