A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Sturgeon Bay regarding a list of new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024. The request was made by NE Wisconsin News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the FOIA request, NE Wisconsin News sought access to public records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically asking for the details in an electronic format. The request was made as part of our commitment to gather and report news to the public, holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency.
As members of the media, we at NE Wisconsin News believe that access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
