Door County Schools: Southern Door Elementary School welcomed most students in 2024-25 school year

Southern Door Elementary School had the highest enrollment among Door County schools, welcoming 482 students during the 2024-25 academic year, according to a report from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2024-25 school year, 57.3% identified themselves as boys, and 42.7% as girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, accounting for 86.9% of the Southern Door Elementary School’s total enrollment.

Among the 16 schools in Door County, Sturgeon Bay High School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 348 students, while Southern Door High School welcomed 304 students and ranked third in the 2024-25 school year.

Southern Door Elementary School is a part of the Southern Door County School District, which roughly covers schools within Door County with its main office in Brussels.

In the previous school year, Southern Door Elementary School also had the highest number of students among Door County schools.

In 2022, the teacher-to-student ratio was approximately 1:14 in Wisconsin classrooms, compared to the national average of 1:16.

Wisconsin ranks 22nd in the U.S. for public education spending, with an annual expenditure of over $16,500 per pupil, totaling $13.8 billion.
