Democratic Socialist candidate Katrina deVille has entered the race for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District after meeting the signature requirement, according to a Feb. 3 report by The Corridor News.
DeVille’s entry adds another contender to the Democratic primary field, which will determine who faces Republican incumbent Tony Wied in the general election. The district includes northeastern Wisconsin communities such as Green Bay and Appleton, according to Ballotpedia.
A post by The Corridor News on X shared a video of DeVille announcing plans to hold a town hall in Appleton and additional events across Wisconsin to discuss campaign issues and policy positions. The post also referenced DeVille’s views on gender-affirming care and other policy priorities, according to The Corridor News on X.
According to Katrina DeVille’s campaign website, DeVille is running as an openly transgender Democratic candidate aligned with the “Courage Candidate” coalition and is campaigning on a platform that includes Medicare for All, raising the federal minimum wage, campaign finance reform, taxing mega-churches to fund free childcare, and stronger government accountability. The site also outlines proposals such as a “Project 2027” agenda and higher taxes on the super-wealthy, including a 100% rate on income above $1 billion.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a report on treatment approaches for pediatric gender dysphoria, outlining potential risks and outcomes associated with certain medical interventions. Federal officials have cited the report in broader policy discussions related to care for minors.
Ballotpedia reports that DeVille is one of four candidates in the Democratic primary for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, along with Rick Crosson, Benjamin Hable and Mark Scheffler. The primary is scheduled for Aug. 11, with the general election set for Nov. 3.
